In June, a team of natural perfume creators gathered in Lovran to "sharpen" their skills and master some of the finer skills of the art of creation.

The lineup was "colorful". The creators came from the Netherlands, Turkey, California, Slovenia, Portugal, Great Britain and Iceland. All of them, in different generations, completed the first module of the Natural Perfume Creation School Fragrant Signatures, so some of them met again after a considerable number of years. It was an opportunity for pleasant socializing and mutual information about creative activities undertaken in the meantime.

The work program was demanding. It was done in a way that has proven successful so far: a lot of the group, interactive learning, but also space for quiet, introspective independent work.

After detailed instructions on how to create a perfume for another person, the education ended with a practical assignment. The creators chose the person they would work with, went through the process of creating a perfume for the other person, and created each other's perfume. And during the online follow-up meeting, which is the final part of this education, we received detailed reports on the success rate of these custom-made perfumes.

On Sunday, October 5, an exhibition of natural perfumes entitled "Ancient Stories through the Sense of Smell" will be held in Rijeka at Villa Ružić, Pećine 5. The exhibition starts at 11:30 a.m., and will be accompanied by a performance by the Girls' Choir Josip Kaplan, and an exhibition of art works by Mirjana Kajdi Žužić.

Awareness of growing environmental pollution and the unhealthy loss of contact with nature is increasingly developing, and a significant part of the population is trying, wherever possible, to use quality products of natural origin. This also applies to perfumes.

Since the beginning of the century, natural perfumes have been increasingly competing with mainstream synthetic variants on the global market. It's nice to know that our region is not far behind the world trend of creating natural perfumes. In fact, we are among those who are leading the way, because education on the creation of natural perfumes has been taking place here for more than twenty years.

Our competent and talented creators (some of whom have passed the strict IFRA criteria and registered their natural perfumes on the international market) will meet before the exhibition, work on improving their creative competence, work on the formulas of their latest creations and then present them at this exhibition.

The 2nd camp for creators of natural perfumes will take place in Lipa on Karst in Slovenia from September 27–29, 2024.

Following the already tested (and successful!) model, the gathered creators will formulate perfumes representing the smellscape of a landscape where the Slovenian mountains meet the Adriatic Sea.

Creators should come to the camp "armed" with their palettes of fragrant materials, and a sniff-bar with materials illustrating the local flora will also be available. The camp is organised by the newly founded Association N.O.S., the invitation applies to all those who have completed Module 1 (and Module 2) of the School Fragrant Signatures, and I will be mentoring the creative part of the programme.
